This is an extremely easy way to configure Google Search settings so that the search results show results for different countries in 2019. This is very useful in certain cases. This explains the process and I show how I did this process by including screenshots. I also explain how I found this discovered this approach.
Configure Google Search settings so that the search results show results for different countries in 2019
I discovered a simple and effective way to configure Google search setting to show results based on country. The usual default is a current country type of setting. You want to change this to a specific country in a list that Google provides.
This is what I did to achieve that:
I went to the Google website. On the bottom right hand side of the screen is a Settings link.
Select Settings. A little menu appears.
Select Search Settings. This shows a Search settings screen.
Page through that until you see Region Settings.
You see the current setting along with a list of regions.
In this case, you see that the current setting is Current Region.
Select the option show more to see the full list of available regions.
The list of regions continues.
Select the region you want. And remember to press the Save button otherwise your changes may not be saved.
In my case, I selected the United States and then pressed the Save button.
Then it displayed a message indicating that the settings have been saved.
I just hope that after providing these instructions and screenshots that Google do not change this process. 🙂 🙂
How I discovered this approach
As part of my affiliate marketing activities I include time for education. I read blogs written by other affiliate marketing affiliates to educate myself about different approaches used by different affiliates which I might be able to use myself or some variation of those different approaches. I am a member of an affiliate marketing website that includes access to a vast array of materials developed over time by people in the affiliate marketing field.
I find that these blogs can be educational and informative. I love learning about some of the different approaches used by different successful affiliates. And of course, I have also contributed and written blogs there myself to help other affiliates. It is a true win win situation.
Anyway I was reviewing one much blog talking about what to me is an extremely interesting affiliate marketing strategy which I will be trying out in the near future to see if I have the same success as this author. Anyway the author explained a step by step process to do some Google research.
When I followed these steps, I got way different results. The search was on some cookware and I was focussed on the first few results. I was expecting to see one of the results that this author mentioned as that organisation is a big player in that country. However it was not there. Of course it was also possible that this big player’s search rankings had simply dropped.
I wondered why and realized immediately that my Google results were targeted for my country which turned out to be different than the country of that author.
Changing the Google domain to a domain associated with a different country I tried again. However Google tries to be helpful and immediately converts that back to the Google domain in my country and the search results again were for my country. This was not what I wanted.
I then completed the process I documented above. When I then repeated my specific Google search I got similar results to the results explained by the blogger in that blog. It turned out that his top result was my second result which is okay as search results change all the time based on numerous variables.
Oh, and remember of course to change your Google search setting for country back to its original value if this is something that you need to do.
Google uses the term region rather than country. Region may be more technically more correct however country is a term which I think is more likely to be used in everyday conversations.
I hope that you found this educational, informative and practical.
